We’re sold the false idea that we can have it all, but turns out you can't have it all at the same time. So what do you want, right now? Each week I’ll ask a woman her top 10.
This week we hear from Laurie, in her early 70s and blessed to be married to a wonderful man for almost 50 years.
10 things Laurie wants:
1. To stay healthy as long as we can to enjoy our beyond delightful grandchildren and their parents (who were NOT always so delightful growing up but somehow managed to turn out the sweetest grandchildren).
2. Give myself permission to buy a few quality/higher priced clothes and accessories that will fit well, last and stay in style. It is so hard to do when you have been a Target/Bradlee’s/Kohl’s/Amazon shopper all of your life to save money. (Channeling my “Mrs. ‘Arris Goes To Paris).
3. Get rid of half of the junk in our basement. Need to get rid of more than half, but it’s a start.
4. Do SOMETHING with all the family photos in shoeboxes, envelopes, etc. And probably need to delete some of the 20,000+ photos and videos on my iPhoto app!!
5. Do a better job staying in touch with my two sisters and sisters-in-law.
6. Update our will. I think it was done in the 1980’s.
7. Schedule one day a week as a “play day” to go/do wherever we want and go out to eat. (Retirement seems to be like working 7 days a week instead of 5!)
8. Get back into Yoga. Took some classes several years ago and found it so beneficial and relaxing, but never picked it up again.
9. Stop playing so many online games—Solitaire, Sudoku, etc. (tho. can’t give up the games I play with friends: Wordle, Connections & Strands) and do more reading instead, esp. before bedtime.
10. To return to Paris!! Visited in 1968 in high school, 1971 in college, and when our daughter was an au pair in Meudon in 2006. London is #2, but Paris is at the top of the list. (Really enjoyed staying in the 14th arrondissement near Rue Daguerre in 2006).
