I wanted to start 2025 with a big welcome to all the new subscribers and say thank you so much to everyone for reading. If you enjoy this post or any others please share, it’s the best way for people to find me.
This week I’m listing my resolutions for 2025… always a tricky subject. Should we stop focusing on rapid change at an arbitrary time of year that traps us in an anxiety induced spending cycle to “improve” ourselves, or is it a great time to re-evaluate and refocus on what matters? I certainly don’t believe a few new habits will help us add more time in the day nor cram the necessities of life in with a 40 hour work week (I cringe at some of the past lists I’ve made for myself in a world where women are never enough) but I do like to have a sense of my priorities for the year.
In 2024 I was successful at some (read more, did a year long clothing freeze, got my boat licence), others less so (didn’t get a French tutor, my screen time went up instead of down) but looking back I feel that on the whole it was a genuine list that helped me find more joy.
My 2025 resolutions:
Finish writing my book (I’m at 12 000 words so a ways to go!) and give it my all to secure a publisher.
Work on alignment. If it’s not for me graciously decline. If it is for me make it happen.
Prioritise good ingredients for cooking nourishing and flavourful meals.
Consistent weight training and flexibility workouts. Getting ready for my old lady body.
Buy only second hand clothing and homewares.
Take things less personally and limit the importance I place on other people’s opinions (both strangers and friends/family). Also be more aware of my own judgements of myself and others.
Continue on my financial literacy and investing journey. I have specific amounts I’d like to divert towards retirement in 2025.
Try and meditate. Any tips?
Be less shout-y.
Use up all the old (but still in-date) products in my bathroom so I can have the streamlined, uncluttered space I crave.
I’d love to hear yours in the comments below.
I’m opening up the email for What Women Want lists so if you’d like me to publish yours please email your top 10 plus a short intro to therealemilyinparis@gmail.com. Looking forward to sharing them!
